Getting Involved in Fun Activities for Children

Welcome back to GrampaSaidSo

There’s no secret to the fact that parents who regularly get involved in their children’s activities see their children becoming happier, healthier and overall more well adjusted to life in general and to school life in particular, including excelling in their educational and extracurricular activities.

Getting involved with your children can have all sorts of beneficial effects, whether it be involving yourself in your children’s learning activities or just with fun activities. It can lead to an increase in their cognitive abilities, help to keep them motivated, have a positive influence on their overall academic achievement for years to come and helps to develop and strengthen that special bond between yourself and your child.

A parent who engages with his children’s activities can also look forward to some unlooked for side effects too, like helping them achieve a more positive outlook on their parenting abilities, increasing their self confidence, and can lead to an increased sense of satisfaction with their children’s educational activities both at school and at home.

Where and How Can You Get Involved?

In today’s increasingly busy world, and our stretched schedules barely covering work, home life and a bit of entertainment, it can seem as though we’ve no time left for any quality input to our kid’s schooling.

But it needn’t be that difficult; with some careful planning and dedication, and seeing what options are available to you, there are levels of commitment to suit every parent’s availability and anyone can make a positive impact. Not only that but both yourself and your child should find it a positive and enabling experience.

Trouble is; it isn’t always the time element that’s missing from the equation: we often have the time but do we have the energy or enthusiasm for getting involved? Well, it’s your kid – how important is he or she to you? It’s no use bemoaning the fact that your child could have done better when it’s too late if you couldn’t be bothered when they needed you!

But if you’re passionate about this and willing to invest the time and energy needed then one of the first things you need to sort out is just what motivates your child; what are they most passionate about? First find that out and then direct your efforts to where you can best further those interests, assuming they’re healthy interests; no one wants to encourage their child in unhealthy pursuits.

Next you’ll want to consider what skills, talents and abilities you can offer. Remember, you want your involvement to be a positive experience for both your child and yourself. If they sense that you’re not happy with what you’ve chosen to get involved with, then they likely won’t be happy either.

And remember this – your child’s learning and development don’t just happen in school; look out for ways of sharing in your children’s holiday activities as well as organising family activities for children.

The bottom line, though, is get involved and stay involved. Children of involved parents aren’t so prone to getting into mischief or developing emotional problems, either in school or out. And you’ll benefit too, by bonding with your child and staying bonded with them.

A win-win situation all round.
